An editorial calendar is nothing; a writer’s practice is everything.

Unread post by Marisa Goudy » Tue Sep 15, 2015 12:55 pm

There comes a day when you can trust your own experience more than what "they" say. In my case, I trust myself when it comes to writing without the net of an editorial calendar.

Ultimately, I work on building a writing practice that encompasses everything from staying open to ideas to making good notes to actually writing to publishing and promoting the post. It's the weekly rhythm that sustains my writing, not a spreadsheet I fill in weeks ahead of time.

How do you make sure you publish to your blog and other social media outposts regularly?

A Writing-for-Business Practice is a Writer’s Practice

I can't use an editorial calendar for writing. I tried and failed. I write when I am inspired. I can't write under pressure, even my own self-induced pressure. I love editorial calendars for email marketing and managing content and other efficiency needs, but just not for my writing practice.

That may ton of sense to me, Lany. I've started thinking about using an ed calendar to repurpose content. Thinking one post that's pure inspiration and one that's planned out, drawing on the keyword inspired concepts I need to write more about for search.

It's such a good practice to use one. Stephan Hovnanian sets up really good editorial calendars for his clients for their email marketing. I picked up a few great tips from him.

I couldn't sleep last night and ended up writing 2 blog posts at 3am! Talk about inpsired....lol

I communicate with potential clients in Australia when I am up at 3am! Probably better to write posts and NOT click send instead though.

I am so new to this process but blogging is going to be a part of what I am doing with my new biz. Thanks for the post Marisa.
And what I glean from your comments here gals is that I shouldn't "drunk text" or in other words "midnight post"

Dang! You mean I should review my posts before publishing! SOOO unlike me. I also write by inspiration and not a calendar. I can see how a rough calendar could guide inspiration, but I haven't done one yet. The closest thing to regularity is my #FridayFive post which is a list post of - you guessed it - FIVE things. ha ha!

I have had such a hard time not publishing the book I just finished, while I wait for advance reviews from some early readers. Usually I just want to hit ENTER and be done... Unfortunately, it's not very strategic for my paycheck calendar...

You don't have to review them unless written after midnight. LOL!

I'm like you, Michele..normally I just like to hit publish. It's hard to wait. I'll get my review done soon!

Oh Phew! Because of my hubby, I am in bed long before that! That wasn't the case before I met him.
