Who are you calling a dummy? What people call pacifiers around the world.

We at Pacif-i.io have done some research into the different terms for pacifier around the world. Did you know the most common are actually brand names (i.e., binky) and the earliest image of a pacifier dates from 1505? We hope you enjoy this little piece of research and feel free to re-post or refer to it if you would like.

Ok, so those are some interesting stats. I've never heard it called a dummy. I'm definitely in the pacificer and bunky knowledge base. :D

My husband was babysitting his granddaughter - and the dog ate the pacifier (4 different ones in 3 days!) I'm wondering if there is a category for that!?!?

Oh that is so funny! I wonder if the 'find me' feature will work inside a dog! I'm not sure the dog would feel very well!

I had a comment on Linkedin about pacifiers being called nookie! I think its the nookie that its you into needing a pacifier! You all know what nookie is right? Is that term used in the US?

A dummy? Oh my that should get CPS called on you if you were to look at your kid an ask where their dummy is. Can't say those kind of words ya know. LOL

I know Nuk is a brand of nipple for bottles and is also a pacifier.

I've also heard them called a binky...

But nookie...yes, that is what started the whole reason you need a pacifier!

I watch YouTube videos.

Well my son used one and we called it a Bink (binky). I have heard of it being called a Nuk too (not nookie) but I think that is a brand name as well.

That does make you think of sleep. I love learning about the differences that make each country and culture unique.
