The Pros and Cons of Using a Pacifier

Unread post by Kirstin Hancock » Tue May 17, 2016 6:25 am

I have just published a new blog on my website today. I tried to give a balanced view of both sides of the argument. Obviously I am bias as I am the inventor of our bluetooth pacifier. Having said this I would love to know your views.

Here is a brief outline, if you want to read more 'pop on over to my blog!'

Pros of using a binky...
Calm and soothe baby when she is distressed or over tired
Calm and soothe babies with colic or wind
Soothe babies in between feeds
Soothe babies with reflux- the sucking produces more saliva which helps to neutralise the acid
Soothe babies with an intense sucking reflex

Cons of using a dummy...
Nipple confusion
Missed feeds
Difficult to wean

What are your experiences of using soothers with your baby?

I don't have kids, but everyone I know that has kids has always used a binky. I am sure there are some negatives about using a bink, but just on paper the pros outweigh the cons. As an Auntie of all the kids around me, I love binks!
