Organizing Layers in Paint. net

Unread post by Sheryl Loch » Sat Sep 19, 2015 8:42 pm

When you are working with multiple layers in a Paint. net project it can get very confusing as to which layer is which. Paint. net automatically just names new layers by number and after a bit those numbers don't mean much...so here is an easy to follow tutorial to show you how to name/tag the layers. Boy is this handy!

Hope this helps you with your next image editing project!

One of these days I will sit down and learn how to use Paint.net. I know if I don't do it, Sheryl will use her wet noodle on me! LOL!

It really is a pretty easy image editor to use. It is free and so are the plugins I use, so there is no excuse for the regular people not to use it.

While Photoshop might be great and have more capabilities, it is also more expensive especially if you are only doing small projects and are not a graphic designer.

Ya, this really is on my list of things to learn. I just need to make some time to actually do it. I know you swear by it, and I know better than to NOT listen to you. :D

Lany, I think anyone doing very many images needs to learn how to use a real editor even if it is a free one such as this.

Like when you needed to change your image the other night and put a different title...had you used Paint. net, you could have just fixed that part of the image if you still had it in the program or opened it up if you had saved it as a paint file.

You could have just deleted (not shown) the layer with the wrong text and made a new layer with the right text..BAM!

You're right! It's time for me to learn it. Ugh... I feel like my brain cells can't handle more learning at the moment.

I use Photofiltre, another very robust image editor. I don't think I had heard of Paint.net.

The photofiltre version on my desktop is an old one, and doesn't have layers.
The updated version on my laptop has layers and I love it. I can also save the project, whereas with the older version I have to save the image jpg, png, or gif. Then if I need to make changes, I pretty much have to start over.

I keep the old one for fonts they discontinued in the newer version, since I have graphics that I recreate with certain font-types.

I am working on images for a client today that I did on the old one, and she wants edits. DOH! SMH! Oh well. It's fun.

I call myself a graphic manipulator, as I am far from a graphic designer. Photoshop confuses me.

Michele, Paint.net allows you to use any font that is on your computer, which is super handy. Well, until you get a million fonts and then can't decide which to chose.

You can also use PSD files in Paint.net, so that makes it SUPER handy as people share those files. Never heard of Photofiltre, so not sure if it also allows PSD files.

Any font?? That could be VERY helpful as I couldn't access the same fonts on my clients' work (that I had done on the old version) if I wanted to use layers from the new version.

Forgive my ignorance, what is a PSD file?

Michele, I will not say ANY font as I am not sure if there may be some that don't go, but any font I have installed on my PC can be used in my Paint. net.

PSD - is PhotoShop files.

I was sitting here wondering how this was different than PowerPoint, because I do layering there, but the font piece does bring my interest up! Thanks for the video.
