Is Your Video Intro Costing You Views?

In this short Quick Tips video, we talk about having a long intro vs a short intro and let me say, a long intro is NOT the way to go.

To many people look at view count and think they have gotten their video message out to that many people, but what they should be looking at is the retention time. Retention time is used in YouTubes ranking algorithm and is VERY important!

When you have a long intro…people tend to leave before they hear any info they came for.
To many video creators feel self important and think a viewer really gives a $#!* about who they are. When in reality, the viewer just wants the info that was promised in the title.

If you as a creator can give the viewer great info, then they may be interested in who you are. Because who you say you are, what you say you can do means nothing!

Do you sit through long intros on videos?

heck, I even like to watch webinar recordings rather than live, because I can skip the intro's. I don't need someones life history!

I never watch live videos anymore. I prefer recorded videos so that I can skip the intros.

I learned this lesson about short intros the hard way.

I was misinformed and thought that it was proper to do a full introduction on guests, but what it really comes down to is it's not about sharing the guest's bio; it's about getting the guest's expertise to the viewers and nothing else.

Another thing that I realized is that guests love talking about what they know and do, but they hate to talk about themselves. So, problem solved. Forget the guest bio and your sales pitch...get to the meat of the topic immediately!

Similar issue but different genre, I want you to know I just listened to a podcast featuring someone I like & follow all of what they do BUT had to sit through 3 minutes of their who they are, sign up for our newsletter, be part of their group BS. I have to say all I kept thinking was no way will I ever sign up for what you offer because I just started this podcast with intentions of hearing this other person and all you care about it sell, sell, selling what you offer. I don't know you, I know your guest. I want to see how you interact with HER and if I like you then I may want to add you to my sphere of influence/intention.
I feel violated!

You nailed it Jess! We as the listener want the host to get to the point because really we came to hear the guest speak.
